I have never Hated a place on The Internet More Than Linkedln
Do you know how boring that makes my feed? The narration In my head anytime I scroll down LinkedIn is various people techslpaining things I already know. IT . IS. SO. BORING.
This is not a post about juniors who officially I will be refering to associates from now on. and you associates out there should too. junior is demeaning. I know medical doctors that have Transitioned into UX like fuck if i am calling them a junior.
This includes my pretenious and bitter fellow seniors. WOW you only have 34235 years of experience and you can define UX I AM SO IMPRESSED.
I Was a Mentor at the Interaction Design Foundation a while back. It used to be a cute little school in Europe their classes were pretty informative although they needed to work on the learning design of them.
Ive successfully mentored a lot of people over the course of my career. outside of this school. and I am incredibly proud of them. Some are frankly even better than I am and I am absolutely inspired by them.
While mentoring at the IDF they went through a change and structured with a lot of dark ux and false job promises and became profit driven.
After they sent me a number of students whose first questions where “how can i make 100,000 in America as a JR” ok listen I am not going to lie youre probably around never going to make that you live in tulsa.
UX Looks More Like This
I am particular about who i mentor. of course the good salary is a plus but its also most of the time based on were you live. If you want to talk about dollars and pennies go talk to some asshole at Goldman Sachs i could give a fuck. i don't deal in salary negotiation or in entitlement.
No school is going to give you want you want. because life doesn't owe you shit.
Here is some shit that is not going to help.
bitching about recruiters ghosting on online. with all the tech layoffs guess who the first people they let go are? the recruiters. and if they ghost GET OVER IT WHAT IS THIS TINDER.
Starting fights on linkeldn with idiot combative gatekeeping seniors.
add some sincerity no pity parties but no cheerleader toxic positivity posts.
If you arent good at critical thinking and you don’t understand you must be a lifelong learner then this job might not be for you. if youre in it for the money and see it as easy . you have been horribly lied to.
I beg you if you really love the work, keep trying. keep going. its inevitable that you get to the right place. for those of you here for the right reasons.
