Um this article is part of the hiring problem. ADP list is a dopamine and from what I hear money black hole now.
Sure this hiring”recruiter” whom talks more like a design lead says there’s an over emphasis on visuals. And not on process. There are dozens of articles like this.
There are dozens stating an over emphasis on process and lack of visuals shows a lack of experience and looks like a Bootcamp templated case study. Design is not linear. No matter how many diagrams pseudo ux consultants and course sellers create.
Companies cherry pick parts of ux methods which is just the scientific method and have their designers do that. The dirty secret is no company does design the same way. No one out there is working in “double diamond” . No one out there is following these steps neatly and in a straight line. Bc people are messy. Culture fit is what companies implement to control the behavior of their employees.
If culture fit is that crucial to an org. I see that as a huge red flag. These types of firms operate as large production companies expecting all employees to behave in predictable manners there is no room for outliers. It’s cultish. Bc corps don’t have culture.
Working style mismatch is not a fault of a candidate who as this article states is expected to also work in ambiguity meaning no one will communicate much once you start. Likely shitty onboarding if anything. Figure shit out on your own if you ask too many questions that’s a problem and if you fuck up despite given no direction then your fired.
All while being expected to be a flawless and efficient communicator? Yah ok. Problem is people can’t kill themselves tailoring their folios and resumes and stalking every company that has a job opening that has a decent chance at being a fake job opening.
Lots of reasons why hiring is especially fucked
Ai on hiring and candidate side creating efficiency paradox
Tax laws put into place by trump have made it much more expensive for companies to make new hires
Big tech is dying. Platforms are dying. This will take time to happen but it’s happening.
Design in ux does this a lot they fail to consider themselves as a part of what’s going on in the cultural zeitgeist. When you zoom out and look at economic factors, shifts in business ops, policy changes, ect.
And we are talking about design tasks? This is petty.
Things are broken and they hurt new things are growing from those cracks and they will be really interesting.
Decentralize.
